Larimar tour
Boca Chica - Barahona
Mine - Bahia de las Aguilas

Larimar is the native stone of the Dominican Republic.  It is a pectolite and found only in the Dominican Republic.  Most of larimar stones sold in Santo Domingo are authentic.  Usually larimar is a light blue with white marbling throughout.

The Larimar is mined only in the Dominican Republic by a single mine in the world, in Los Chupaderos, about 10 kilometers southwest of the city of Barahona, in the south-western region of the Dominican Republic.

You can read up on larimar at

It is easy to test larimar by using the burn test, and many vendors will provide you with the lighter to do so.

Playa de los pathos with crystal clear river and "waterway" that enters it (pictured below).

To visit larimar mine, you need to take a detour from the Sierra de Bahoruco road that goes from Barahona to Pedernales to reach Los Checheses and Las Filipinas, which are very close together. On these roads can transit only vehicles with four-wheel drive.

Day 3: we recommend Bahia de las Aguilas with lunch at the restaurant where you embark.
